Janki Chatti FRH was built in 1973. It is 42km from Barkot. 'Chatti' is a halting place for people en-route a pilgrimage, fortunately some of them still retains their original names. It is the last road head from where a 5km steep trek leads to Yamunotri. In earlier days as there was no accommodation in Yamunotri, one had to come back the same night. The view of the snow clad Himalaya. Bandarpoonch glacier and trek to the 'dham' is the highlight of the FRH. One can drive upto Kharsali village where the Goddess Yamunotri's idol is shifted in winters. Kharasali is the ancestral village of the Pandas of Yamunotri and is accessible through a rope bridge. It has two beautiful intricately carved wooden temples of Someshwar and Shanidev. An 18km tough trek to Saptrishi Kund is for dedicated trekkers. Lt. Francis White in his book 'Travels in Garhwal' gives vivid account of this trek.
