Kausani FRH (Forest Rest House) built in 1950-53 located at 1750m. It is 50km north of Almora and has a 300km panoramic view of snow clad peaks including that of Chaukhama, Badrinath, Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Panchachuli and the Api-nampi in Nepal.
Pinath hill top where the Kosi River originates is a good 5 km trek from the FRH. It is the highest point in Kausani. Close to the FRH is Lakshmi Ashram, Started by Sarla Ben, a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi which is quite popular and attracts many foreigners. A natural trail and lake has been developed which is a good walk through the forest of deodar, surai, salix and chestnut. A fire watch tower on the ridge to Sarla reserve forest gives a good overview of the forests. After her death in 182, this block was named Sarla Reserve. The Pant Herbal Garden is also situated nearby.
